Grades 8 & 9

FOUNDATION / CHECKPOINT (Grades 8 & 9)

Foundation / Checkpoint is a one year programme, leading to internal and externally marked and certificated examinations from the University of Cambridge.
Foundation is the 8th and 9th year of schooling and upon completion is the equivalent of Grade 9.

Our Foundation course is designed to give students a firm grounding in the concepts of Mathematics, Combined Science and English and is aimed at students from 13 to 14 years of age who have usually completed grades 7 or 8.
Students must take 7 subjects, three of which are required to complete "Checkpoint", however Cambridge examinations are optional for these subjects. All other subject exams are marked locally at the Academy.

Compulsory Subjects are

    English Language (1st Language)
    Afrikaans (2nd Language)
    Mathematics
    Co-ordinated Science (a combination of Chemistry, Biology & Physics)
    Computer Studies
    Geography
    History
